DAY ONE - THE TOPLESS SWIM 💗

Last year 70 women got on a boat with us, headed out onto Lake Rotoiti, took their tops off and jumped in a bloody freezing lake.

As you do. 😂 And it was EPIC.

There were boobs. There were scars. There were reconstructed boobs. There were no boobs. There were women who'd had breast cancer, women supporting their mates, women remembering people they'd lost and women who just wanted to do something a little bit outside their comfort zone for a bloody good cause.

And that is exactly what we're doing again.

We’ll meet at Okere Falls Store, pile onto the boats and head across Lake Rotoiti to the hot pools.

Then it’s time for the swim. It is NOT a distance swim. No training required. 😂

We get together at the edge of the lake, count it down, tops come off — if you want them to — and in we go.

Then, because we’re not completely unhinged, we get straight into the geothermal hot pools for a soak, platters, yarns and a bloody good afternoon.

Afterwards, the boats take us back to Okere Falls Store where there’ll be mulled wine waiting.

This year we want to absolutely smash that.

WHY WE DO IT

We all know the stat.

1 in 9 Kiwi women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

That’s our mums. Sisters. Best mates. Workmates. Daughters. Us.

This whole thing started because of my best mate Di Foster.

After breast cancer and a mastectomy, a Towelie gave her back the freedom to go swimming without having to think about where she was going to get changed afterwards.

She could chuck it on, change underneath it and get on with her life.

And that got me thinking.

There are so many women who’ve been through breast cancer who don’t see bodies that look like theirs.

So we created a day where they could. No judgement. No staring. No explaining.

Just a bunch of women, in all sorts of bodies, doing something pretty bloody liberating together.

And you absolutely DO NOT have to take your top off.

There is zero pressure.

Come in your togs. Come topless. Decide when you get there.

Meet: Okere Falls Store
Boat: You MUST be boarded by 10.40am
Event: 11am–2pm

Come earlier if you want and grab coffee, breakfast or a cheeky cocktail while we get everyone registered.

Location: Okere Falls Store → Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools, Rotorua

Numbers: Only 82 women.

Day One is female only because of the nature of the swim and making sure everyone feels safe and comfortable.

Partners are very welcome to join us at Okere Falls Store before we leave and again when we get back.

Last year our 70 spots sold out three weeks before the event, so if you’ve been thinking about it... probably don’t think for too long. 😆

There was one piece of feedback we got over and over again last year:

“We just wanted more time together.” The boat ride home came around WAY too quickly. So this year we’ve turned the Topless Swim into a whole weekend. And Day Two is pretty much the dream recovery day.

DAY TWO — WAI ARIKI 💦

After the chaos, cold water, boobs and mulled wine of Saturday...

Sunday is for recovering. 😂

We’ve got an exclusive experience at Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa.

If you haven't been before — it is LUSH.

We’ll make our way through their restorative journey together:

• Saunas

• Waterfall showers

• Ice buckets

• Geothermal hot pools overlooking the lake

• Geothermal mud lounge

• Steam room

• And all the other lovely things that make you forget real life exists for a few hours

Basically... Sunday morning in a robe, soaking in hot pools with a bunch of epic humans you probably didn't know 24 hours earlier.

Do I have to be topless?

NOOOOOO. There is absolutely zero pressure.

You can wear togs. You can take your top off. You can arrive convinced there is no bloody way you're doing it and then change your mind when 81 other women start taking theirs off. 😂

Whatever makes you comfortable.

Can I come by myself?

YES.

Please don't let this be the thing that stops you.

So many women came alone last year.

You will not be the only one.

And I can almost guarantee you won't leave feeling like you came alone.

Is Day One female only?

Yes.

Because it is a topless swim and because some of the women attending have been through breast cancer, mastectomies and reconstruction, keeping that part of the event female only helps us create a space where everyone can feel comfortable.

Partners can absolutely join us before and after at Okere Falls Store.

Can my partner come on Day Two?

YES!

Day Two is open to partners.

Is this only for people who have had breast cancer?

Absolutely not.

Some women attending have had breast cancer.

Some are supporting someone who has.

Some have lost someone they love.

Some just want to do something bloody cool, meet new humans and raise money for a cause that affects far too many of us.

You are welcome.

How far do we have to swim?

About as far as you feel like. 😂 This is not a distance swimming event.

We get in the lake, have a splash, take in the moment and then get our butts into the hot pools.

Can I camp?

Yep!

Blue Lake TOP 10 have cabins, tent sites and motorhome spots available and have given us a 15% discount for the weekend.

THE IMPORTANT BIT 💗

This event is fun.

It's ridiculous.

It's liberating.

But underneath all of that is the reason we started it.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 9 Kiwi women.

And if we can get a bunch of epic humans together, have one hell of a weekend AND raise a massive chunk of money for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ while we're at it...
