Our Towelies are made in Turkey. Every step from the Cotton being grown through to the finished Towelies you see on our website! I (Debs) and Mr STOKEDNZ (Gary) have personally been over to the factory, met the humans making our Towelies, hugged it out with them, taken them gifts, yarned to them about life, actually seen with my own eyeballs their working conditions and shared many cups of tea, as this stuff is important to us!
We try to visit annually!
Our factory also:
- Is fully compliant with Turkish Laws and tax regulations.
- Pays company and employee taxes
- Pays annual leave and over time
- Does not exploit children!
- Treats all employees with respect and dignity
The humans making our Hooded Towel Ponchos are a crucial part of our business, because happy staff make epic quality Towelies, right?

NZ OWNED & OPERATED
Whilst NZ made would be rad, you can't grow Turkish Cotton in New Zealand, obviously. And honestly we love the two families we work with in Turkey. Looming Turkish Cotton is a skill that has been passed down for generations and we are stoked we get to be a part of that.
NZ made is getting a lot of coverage and kudos right now and while I am all for it, I personally think we should be asking bigger questions here. Such as:
- "Are our makers paid fairly for their work?"
- "Do they have an epic working environment?"
- "Are they happy?"
NZ made does not guarantee any of the above questions, nor does it guarantee amazing quality.
OUR COTTON
Our Turkish Towels and Towelies are made with extra long cotton fibres, meaning they are incredibly durable and actually get softer, fluffier and more absorbent with washing.
Turkish cotton has world renowned properties such as:
- Quick-drying preventing mildew.
- Super packable
- Very absorbent and can hold up to 3 x their weight in water.

PACKAGING
We are transitioning over to recycled plastic courier bags in every size. We previously used compostable bags, but after extensive research by Gaz (and his colleagues from the research insitute he worked at) they concluded that using recycled plastic bags that are made here in NZ are actually better for the planet than compostable bags that have to be shipped in.
So we are moving over to these (and abviously using up the compostable ones).
You also may find your order packaged in recycled card / tissue paper / bubble wrap etc. We are alllll about reusing vs buying.. And we hope you continue to reuse it too.
